How We Help With Presorting

We’ve been building presort equipment and software since 1988, for presort bureaus and for mailers who sort their own. Here’s what our sorters do for your operation:

  • Handles Virtually Any Mailpiece: Process postcards, letters, magazines, newspapers, polywrapped pieces, and more—up to 12″ x 17″ and .75″ thick. Tritek’s straight-line design eliminates turns and carousels for smoother handling and less mail damage.
  • Captures Presort Discounts: Presort and commingle mail in-house to maximize available USPS presort discounts before mail enters the postal processing and delivery system.
  • Built Around Your Operation: Tritek sorters can be configured and customized to match your specific mail mix, workflow, and operational requirements.
  • Processes Up to 30,000 Pieces Per Hour: High-speed configurations deliver the throughput needed for demanding, high-volume presort operations.

Machines for Presorters

If you run a presort operation, your margin is made in the sort room. Machine throughput, operator hours, and how many trays qualify decide whether a client is worth having. Our equipment is built around that math:

  • Speed: Thousands of pieces per hour, up to 30,000 on the M Sorter. Taking on new client volume shouldn’t mean adding a shift.
  • Less labor per tray: One operator can run a full sort. Put the savings where they earn more, like client service, pickups, and new accounts.
  • Accuracy: OCR and barcode reading catch bad addresses before they cost you postage. Fewer returns, cleaner trays, happier clients.
  • Ready for the next rate case: Sort schemes live in software. When USPS restructures rates, like this July’s ADC/AADC change, your schemes get an update, not your hardware.

Why Choose Tritek for Presort Machines

Plenty of companies sell sorters. Here’s what’s different about ours:

  • Built for presort from day one: Tritek’s roots are in the presort industry, and we’ve been building equipment for presorters for over 40 years.
  • All the features you need: in-line scales, printers, labelers, verifiers, openers, and duplex reading that scans both sides of each piece.
  • Engineered for uptime: fewer parts, motors, and belts than competing machines, which means less downtime and lower maintenance.
  • Built to order: every machine is configured to your operation, not the other way around.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our sorters handle letters, postcards, magazines, newspapers, polywrapped pieces, flats, and mixed mail, up to 12″ x 17″ and 0.75″ thick. The transport has no turns or carousels, so fragile pieces come through clean.

It depends on the machine. Letter sorters run up to 30,000 pieces per hour, flat sorters up to 20,000, and parcel sorters up to 3,600 packages per hour.

Presorted mail qualifies for USPS workshare discounts, and after July 2026’s 4.8% rate increase those discounts are worth more than ever. Well-run sorting operations typically cut postage costs by up to 20%. The exact number depends on your volume and mail mix, which is what we work out in a free consultation.

A few things change when the machine does the sorting:

  • Speed: thousands of pieces per hour, without adding hands
  • Accuracy: OCR and barcode reads beat manual sorting every time
  • Labor: one operator can run a full sort, which frees the rest of the team for client work and growth
  • Scale: volume growth doesn’t have to mean headcount growth

The machine feeds each piece past a camera system that reads the address, printed or handwritten. Software matches the address against your sort scheme, sprays an Intelligent Mail barcode on the piece, and diverts it to the bin for its destination. Sorted mail comes off in trays, ready for USPS.

Most of the machine is built to order:

  • In-line printers, scales, and labelers
  • Barcode verifiers
  • Color cameras
  • Doubles detection and thickness detection
  • Pocket counts into the hundreds, in single or multiple tiers
  • Single or dual-sided configurations
  • Ergonomic stacking options
  • Modular construction, so the machine can be upgraded in the field as your needs change
  • Need something not listed? Let us know — every machine is built to order.

Yes. Our machines are designed so one person can run a full sort at speed. For a lot of mailers, that’s the difference that makes in-house presorting pay.

Current Tritek sorters include:

  • Multi-line OCR that reads printed and handwritten addresses
  • Barcode scanners for classification and tracking
  • Duplex camera systems that read both sides of a piece in one pass
  • Transmission-free, direct-drive transport with anti-jamming bins
  • Software for postal processing, reporting, and analytics

Yes. USPS certification is what lets your mail qualify for presort discounts — it verifies the equipment sorts to Postal Service standards. Without certified equipment and properly prepared trays, the discounts don’t apply. Every Tritek sorter is USPS-certified.

Presort companies, or presorters, are mailing intermediaries. They collect mail from many clients, combine it all, and sort it into full trays that qualify for bulk USPS discounts, sharing the savings with their clients. Tritek builds the sorting equipment presort companies run, and helps mailers who’d rather capture those discounts themselves.
